Many people don’t realize how much money they’re wasting each and every day due to poor insulation. Arizona is one of the country’s most beautiful states, but also has unrelenting heat at times. More than half of the energy used in homes comes from heating and cooling. Air conditioners can work overtime when trying to maintain a comfortable temperature in a home that is not properly insulated. This can make cooling costs skyrocket. Air can seep through cracks around doors or windows. So whether it’s hot or cold, it’s vital that you make special efforts to properly insulate your home, or you will continue to lose money.

Pinpoint your needs
Oftentimes, when property owners think of insulation in Arizona, they feel it’s as simple as picking up a few supplies from the hardware store. However, in reality, an amateur hasn’t the slightest idea where to start. That’s why it’s vital to know whether your home was built with insulation. If not, the job may call for adding brand-new insulation to the home, or simply updating what’s already there.

Choose the right windows
Good window insulation in Arizona is essential to enjoying the area. Whether you live in a lavish custom home or a small fixer-upper, if you don’t install the right windows, you’ll always throw away money on heating and cooling costs. You can choose from a variety of styles and materials, but the main point is that you want your windows to work for you. Double-pane windows are best, since they provide the most effective insulation as opposed to single-pane windows.

Try weather-stripping
Since air can get in through cracks and openings in windows and doorways, weather-stripping is a great option for insulation. Arizona heat that comes in from the outside could increase the temperature in your home up to 70% without good insulation. As a result, your air conditioner would be hard at work, which would increase you electricity bill. Weather-stripping is a relatively easy option for homeowners. Materials are not too expensive and the installer should make sure to pay close attention the openings around windows and doors. Weather-stripping is best applied to clean, dry areas.

Insulate your walls and the attic
Lots of heat can come in through the attic, which can be a big problem if you want to keep cooling bills at a minimum. Proper insulation in Arizona is key, since it gets so hot. A well-insulated attic contains about a foot of insulation, such as cellulose or polystyrene foam. And a big indicator of proper attic insulation is that it will be extremely cold. In addition, making sure your walls are properly insulated is also essential. This can be done with an array of materials, including fiberglass, foam board, mineral and more. Although some homeowners handle their own insulation, it wouldn’t hurt to consult a few experts.

Call in the pros
Insulating a home is a big deal and the rewards are big, if done right. But many times, homeowners can get in over their heads and start a job that is too in-depth. And if the job is done incorrectly, all the hard work is in vane, since you won’t save any money. You’d also have to spend more money repairing mistakes. That’s why if never hurts to contact a professional for insulation in Arizona. Many of these professionals specialize in home insulation and can save you lots of time, money and stress. With an expert, you benefit from their skilled expertise, extensive knowledge and best of all you get peace of mind. A reputable insulation company in Arizona can ensure that the job is done correctly, and your home will be insulated without any gaps.

Many people nowadays choose to self build their own home because it seems like the most logical thing to do. House prices continue to increase year after year which means that if you are a first time buyer it can seem virtually impossible to get onto the property ladder. To build your own home is one of the ways to get around this problem as it can work out significantly cheaper as well as having many other benefits.

One of the main advantages of choosing to self build your home is regardless of whether you are involved in the building process or not you have complete control over what happens. Many building companies will offer assistance with choosing a design, deciding on which materials to use, finance, obtaining permits and anything else needed, but you will have the overall say on the final decision. This means that you can guarantee that your self build home will be exactly what you dreamed of.

The help you will receive from building companies will ensure that the project stays on target throughout, that the house is being built correctly and that all aspects of planning permission will be dealt for. This is helpful for people who have never built there own home before as it can be a confusing and daunting process. As well as this professionals have problem seen and dealt with every kind of problem that could possibly arise. This means that should it happen they will now how to quickly and efficiently solve the problem.

Having your own self build home could work out to be one of the best investments that you have ever made. It is highly likely that you will be able to sell the house for more than what you paid to have it built which means that you will make a healthy profit. This will definitely be the case if house prices continue to rise over the next couple of years.

Unless you have designed a self build home, there is absolutely nowhere else that you will find a home that meats every single one of your specifications. Often, when looking for houses there are certain things that people don’t like but settle for because it’s the best house they’ve seen. This will not be the case at all with a self build home because you will have chosen everything yourself.

It’s not hard to see why so many people choose to self build their own homes now. One of the best things about it is that you don’t have to change anything when you first move in as everything will be perfect already.

At Pottonself build we are market leaders in self build housing and offer a complete and comprehensive support service.
Restoring a home either for financial or personal reasons is one of the most exciting (and demanding) projects you can take on.

Restoring a home either for financial or personal reasons is one of the most exciting (and demanding) projects you can take on. First there’s the boring legal stuff, deeds, planning permission, listing. And of course the financial- negotiating sale prices, securing borrowing and insurance. Once restoration work starts often the headaches can get worse as the real hard graft of the restoration work begins, the walls start coming down or going up, you find out the window measurements you triple checked were half an inch short or your ground workers digger gets stolen by joy riders (it happens!).

However once these stages are behind you and your restoration begins to take shape you get the opportunity to start applying your creative flare to the development and adorning your home in whatever interior decoration style you like.

Most property developers agree that this is the area of your development where the future resell value of your home can be made or broken. Get the interior design right and prospective buyers will dig deep into their pockets and are likely to overlook other factors which may be beyond your control like location or size. In short, if it feels like home, the buyer will want to make it their home.

As this is often the area of your restoration you have the most control over its worth considering spending a little more time and effort with the interior design and think beyond the confines of your nearest low price Scandinavian furniture outlet.

Increasingly the serious property developers are restoring homes in the original style of the home in the period it was built or injecting regal charm and richness into new builds by furnishing their properties with genuine antique pieces which add value to a home while most furniture depreciates faster than a new car off the forecourt.

While your restoration budget may not stretch to adorning your entire property with antiques consider the points of high face value- those prominent features which stand out when you first enter the room. Fireplaces are a great example of these features which can instantly light up a room by drawing the eye with their elaborate or classic decoration. While modern manufacturers lace their fireplaces in urban chic, an antique fireplace transcends fashion and trends and will not only hold its value but will appeal to home buyers of all generations with their timeless elegance and style.

Antique mantels, clocks and piano’s are also commonly used by developers to inject a touch of class into their projects.

If you think your development could benefit from an antique feature or if you want to restore your entire home in an antique style start visiting antique shops and dealers, auctions and fairs and shortlist some of the types of items you think could work in your home- and don’t forget to account for installation and maintenance costs when considering antique pieces.

John McE writes articles on a number of subjects including antique fireplaces and mantels and home restoration. For more about antique fireplaces and mantels see Westland of London

Any company that distributes, sells or installs artificial grass and synthetic turf systems and their components is responsible for compliance with state and federal laws, regardless of where the regulated metals, compounds and/or chemicals originated.

ASGi recommends that each company in the artificial turf and synthetic grass supply chain – from grass surfaces component manufacturers to consumable job materials suppliers and product brand owners, their distributors and installers – develop a quality assurance system that addresses specific federal and state restrictions on the use of heavy metals and other chemicals and integrates these requirements into existing quality assurance and control (QA/QC) programs.

What due diligence steps can your company take to ensure the quality of your materials and supplies are compliant with federal and state laws?

Don’t assume that suppliers have read and adhere to the specifications, or know about federal and state restrictions on the use of heavy metals in artificial turf system job materials.

Discuss specifications and requirements directly with your suppliers.

Incorporate specifications of maximum level requirements into your purchase orders and product specifications.

Require suppliers to submit a Certificate of Compliance with supporting documentation. Ask suppliers to provide the analytical data on which they base their compliance claim. Require suppliers to submit new Certificates of Compliance with supporting documentation whenever their suppliers, formulation or raw materials change.

Test the incoming finished goods and job materials components of all new suppliers prior to issuing a purchasing contract, using x-ray fluorescence analysis or conventional laboratory testing.

Select laboratory sample preparation and test methods that result in full dissolution of the sample and analyze for total concentration of lead [and other heavy metals and chemicals]. Test methods that only measure leachable metals are not appropriate (example – TCLP Total Characteristic Leachette Protocol)

Adopt an on-going program for monitoring or doing a “spot-check” on incoming stock, job materials or other components to make sure that heavy metals are not subsequently introduced into your workplace or inventory and supplies.

A Special Note Regarding California’s Proposition 65

Proposition 65 doesn’t BAN any products, nor does it set limits of the amount of a chemical or heavy metal a product is allowed to have it simply requires appropriate and proper warnings on products containing controlled chemicals – specifically if the amount exceeds the SHN defined under OEHHA maximums.

Anyone doing business in the State of California ought to know what is required to insure that you do not risk receiving a 60 Day Notice of Violation.

One of the largest investments we make in our home is the carpeted surfaces. Nothing can compare to the feeling of warmth and comfort you get from the carpet underfoot. It has an elegance and beauty when you develop a few simple habits to maintain its beauty and the carpets will last far beyond your expectations.

It is quite common to have dark traffic areas form in your carpet if people walk with their shoes on. These areas get worn thin from the build up of dirt and the friction of shoes rubbing on the carpet and eventually no amount of carpet cleaning will make the carpets look any better. A simple solution is to take your shoes off and keep the carpet cleaner.

A simple trick to keep the carpet cleaner is to place small mats or runners in strategic areas in your home that might receive high amounts of foot traffic. These runners serve to decorate your home but more importantly they keep the carpet cleaner underneath. It is easier to clean or replace these small carpets than to replace your wall to wall carpet. You can’t stop the dirt from coming in or in most cases prevent the high volume of foot traffic but these runners can prolong the need for carpet cleaning.

Another method of keeping the carpet cleaner is to get in the habit of not eating food on the carpet. If this can’t be avoided because of the layout of your home then restrict the food to one area and make every effort to protect the carpet when eating. This might seem inconvenient but if you don’t do this you will have spots and stains on the carpet that cleaners won’t be able to remove. One area of the home that always looks the worst is the dining area and in some cases the carpets don’t come clean.

Direct sunlight can cause some areas of your carpet to fade and lose their luster. The only way to prevent this is to draw your curtains but this doesn’t mean that you have to sit in darkened rooms. With a little planning you will realize that there are times when you are either not home or not in the room and by drawing the curtains during these times you can still enjoy the daylight and keep your carpets looking beautiful.

Carpets today are designed to hide dirt and they have the ability to resist stains. If you can’t see the dirt easily this doesn’t mean that you don’t need a regular cleaning routine to keep the carpet cleaner. Dirt can damage carpet fibers permanently if allowed to remain in the pile. It is absolutely necessary to develop a routine of vacuuming regularly to prevent this damage from occurring and keep the carpet cleaner. Make sure that you have a good vacuum and make sure that you vacuum slow enough to allow the machine to do a good job.

Developing a habit of spot and stain removal when these occur will help to maintain the beauty of your carpets. Even though vacuuming can remove most of the dry dirt and spot removal can make the carpets look cleaner it is necessary to deep clean the carpets on a regular basis to remove the washable dirt that builds up on the carpet as a result of cooking vapors, air pollution, and tracked in dirt from outside. If you clean the carpets before they become too dirty than the cleaning will be more successful. By following these simple rules you will enjoy the beauty of your carpets for many years.

I have been cleaning carpets for over 30 years. In that time I have used many methods but I have found I get the best the best results using encapsulation technology in the carpet cleaning systems.

With material and labor costs skyrocketing, people restrain themselves from realizing their dream of building new homes. Instead, they prefer renovating and remodeling the existing structures to their predilection.

The remodeling option is advantageous in many ways. These days we often hear our parents say, “They don’t really build things like they used to”. To a large extent, this statement is true and very apt considering the fact that most old buildings have stood the test of times and are still in good shape. Thus, sustainability is the principal priority.

Building a new home or renovating your existing house, both have some factors in favor and some against the move. Some of the factors that need to be considered before opting either of the aforementioned options are:
The first and the foremost factor that should largely reflect your decision is your budget. Cost is usually the determining factor along with the extent of renovation that needs to be implemented. Depending upon the condition of the house, building codes, materials and other factors, sometimes remodeling might be costlier than constructing a new home. If you limit the renovation to restricted section of your house, then building a new home is out of question.

Location is another factor that one must not overlook while taking this important decision. If you like the area and its surroundings, renovation and remodeling is a better option than moving out and building new house.

One more factor that plays a crucial role is the time spent in your old house and the emotional attachment. Some people have sentimental values attached with their home and thus remodeling their existent home is the only option for them.

An additional factor that can have a say in your decision is if you are tired of surroundings and your floor plan. This is a major step and building a new home is more suitable than ripping off all walls and remodeling the structure.

A thorough research is indispensible in case of building a new home or remodeling your old house. Research for the best professionals in home improvement and remodeling, a good way of getting hold of the best contractor is internet. Several companies offer services for construction renovation. Go through the websites and pick a dependable and steadfast contractor.

Advantages of remodeling an existing home:

Less hidden costs than new homes, as new homes come with impact fees, permit fees and numerous such hidden expenses. Remodeling does not involve such fees levied on new house.

Remodeling is usually a low cost affair than building an entire new house.

Wait period for renovation and remodeling is considerably lower.
Advantages of new home building

No limit for designing and construction potential, new homes can be built keeping in mind the modern style, a much better airflow and larger storage space. In short, extensive planning is possible in new home building.

More efficient homes and new technology can be put into practice saving the energy and overall cost.

The new home building and remodeling an existing home have their own pros and cons. Therefore, it is essential to research well before considering any of the options. Also, take into account all the different facets and decide only after extensively exploring all possibilities.

Regardless of what style of kitchen you choose to have, finding the window blinds or window treatments that enhance the ambiance rather than overpower it or cower to it can be difficult. Whichever style or window treatment you choose, it needs to be able to hold up to the abuse of a bustling kitchen, be easy to clean, while also enhancing the look of the room. In this article, we’ll talk about how to choose the overall best window shades, shutters, blinds, and curtains for your kitchen.

Vintage Kitchen Decor
Vintage style kitchens are all about having a little fun with lines and color. Your window treatments should be no exception. Fabric window shades in bold colors can mask the grease and oil that manages to find its way to kitchen surfaces between washings. However, horizon window blinds, wood shutters, and valences can really compliment a vintage look and are easy to wipe down.

Country Kitchen Window Treatments
The whimsical style of a cottage type kitchen calls for softer lines and light patterns. Instead of window shades, however, consider shutters in a cream or neutral base color. You can also choose fabric curtains in subtle cream-colored cotton with an eyelet design, but keep in mind you will need to wash them frequently to keep them looking their best.

Wood blinds are also an excellent choice for a warm country kitchen. If you choose shades or blinds, you may want to consider a valance as well to soften up the strong lines. You can use a matching fabric to create a puffy one, or you can use willow and other rustic elements to create your own.

Victorian Or Romantic Style
Tie back curtains are often found outside the kitchen, but the artfulness of this elegant touch can really add romance to a kitchen. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative with your fabrics and patterns. Try adding pair of shutters that peek out below the curtain for an even more charming look. Best of all, wood shutters are easy to keep clean in a room where window treatments need constant care.

Finding the right treatment for your kitchen windows can seem a little intimidating, but they add a lot to the look of the room. Window blinds, window shades, shutters, and curtain can all make the room more comfortable by controlling temperature and the amount of natural light. They are the perfect opportunity to get a little creative and make the space feel a little more like home.

Every one fantasizes of furnishing their home as stylishly and aesthetically as they can, but the very thought that furniture and low pricing does not go hand in hand holds us back from moving ahead and the fantasy remains a fantasy.

However, we try to break this old convention by the fact that furnishing of house demands the creative mind and not the heavy pockets. Just make your mind while you run in as many innovative directions as it can, and you will get all those styles and beauty of furniture of which you were looking for. Instead of selling off your entire furniture and shopping for the new one, you will want to make as much use of your existing furniture as much possible. This practice is surely going to save you a lot to invest somewhere else.

Step smartly by finding the consignment stores where you can sell off your old furniture in return of the some new ones. Consult the manager of the shop to know about the latest trend running in the furniture market and how they can make it available for you in return of your old furniture. You might strike a very economical deal this way.

One can also keep builder model home sales also as another option of striking a lucrative deal. Look for the models in your area, and if you find any piece of furniture tempting, then contact the sales office about how they can avail that article for you. However, in this case the furniture pieces might have some fading marks or dents due to traffic problems or delayed cleaning schedules. By excluding these minor things, you get the custom items bearing no difference in the look and quality from the new furniture at the cost reduced to many times.

Another idea through which you can furnish your place is by making a mutual exchange of furniture articles with your friends and relatives. You might have some articles that does not fit in your home, but can go extremely well at your friend’s place or vice versa. So, in such cases there can be a exchange of furniture items, which can prove advantageous for both the parties.

Another way of making a clever deal in furniture items is by visiting your favorite furniture outlets that have some provision for selling the scratched and dented items at the discounted rates. This would help you to save a lot on your future furniture shopping adventures. For purchasing the trendy furniture articles at the reasonable cost, one can visit the design centers where the showroom samples are sold at the periodic sample sales.

Buying the furniture pieces from the auction is never a bad option, because it offers the buyers to choose from the desired products at the economical cost. The idea of renovating the discarded furniture by making use of your creativity can result into something new and exciting. You might come up with some spellbound innovations that can becomes a trend.

Try out the above suggestions to strike the best furniture deal at the most cost effective level. These options would surely save a lot, especially for the ones who plan to relocate elsewhere. After spending so much on relocation, one is hardly left with the amount to spend on furniture.

The question that a lot of consumers are asking; Is there really a difference between the 4mm glass and the 8mm glass mosaic tile? Why, yes there is, Price and thickness

The question that a lot of consumers are asking; Is there really a difference between the 4mm glass and the 8mm glass mosaic tile? Why, yes there is, Price and thickness. It is a less expensive alternative to go with the 4mm glass tile vs. the 8mm glass tile. Some might say that there is a difference in the vibrance of color, but there is no difference in the look or appearance of the two.

The major concern to take into consideration is what you will be using the glass mosaic for. If you are going to coordinate the glass with a field tile, you need to take into consideration the thickness and the difficulty of installing it with a thicker or thinner product. Not that it is a major issue, most 8mm glass tiles will be the same thickness as most field tile wether it is natural stone or ceramic tile. The use of a 4mm thick glass will just require what is called “back butter” which means adding more of your setting materials to the back of the tile you are installing. There is no adverse effect to the tile, all you are doing is building out the material to be flush with what ever you are coordinating it with. Now, there is no worry of you are doing a complete project out of glass you will have no issues with thickness.

The other nice thing about glass is you will not have the need for bullnose. Most glass is a clear vibrant glass with the color coming from an attached colored backing on the tile. Unlike ceramic tile, which the ends are not attractive, the sides of the glass is a nice clean edge and attractive from the sides. The only thing you will need to consider is where you start your glass tile for installation. If there is an open end, i would start your installation there, and work towards a corner. That way if a cut is needed to finish the project it will be in a corner and not visible to the naked eye. If your project is open on both ends, most tiles are a 1″ x 1″ size so there is usualy room for full size piece to end your run with.

Another popular question to ask is what color grout to use. In most applications a simple white or bright white grout is used to accentuate the glass tile. Normally you are adding a glass backsplash to show the vibrant color or wild designs from the glass and the easiest way to show that is with the bright white grout. Most, will think that it will be a stark contrast, but you will be surprised that when everything is said and done it will look beautiful to look at and not to busy. Other than that why not save money and use the less expensive product and put the extra money some where else!

This article focuses on planning and installing a residential home wind power generation system, not as much on how a wind energy system works.

Wind power generation, an alternative and renewable energy source, has seen a dramatic increase in the last few years. Technological advances make it more and more feasible to install wind power generators for individual homes. The newer systems are more efficient and quieter.

Not every geographical location however, is suited for installing a wind power generator. A consistent wind, with average speeds of approximately 11 miles per hour is required to make a wind energy system feasible. Lower wind speeds can be suitable for battery charging and water pumping in your remote weekend cottage.

Wind availability maps are published by the US National Renewable Energy Lab. You can get a general idea from these maps if you are living in a state and county with sufficiently high winds.

Once you confirm this, you will need to also check if your exact location experiences the required, consistent average wind speeds. If your home, your property is located on the side of a hill, your sheltered location might not provide the required wind speeds. Maybe you can install the wind turbine high enough, to just extend it over the ridge. You will then possibly be able to pick up sufficient wind.

Local wind maps, can also be found at the National Renewable Energy Lab. These maps howver, are not very easy to read and understand. Fortunately though, you can simply contact a wind power manufacturer, such as those listed in the American Wind Energy Association website. They can tell you if it is feasible to install a wind power generator for your home.

At this point, just get some general information about the feasibility of installing a wind power system for your home. You have some more checking to do, before you spend a lot of your and the manufacturer’s time on details.

Next step is to check the local codes and requirements. Your town might have some bylaws, or if you live in a subdivision, there might be restrictions in place, that will not allow you to install a wind power generator for your home. Don’t let that deter you! Get a petition going in your town or city to change the bylaws.

Talk to the neighbor hood association. Who knows, maybe the whole subdivision will end up supporting a wind power generator for all the homes!
Don’t forget to also talk to your neighbors. Unfortunately, some people still believe that all wind energy generators are noisy and kill birds. Inform the neighbors as you investigate and learn more.

Once you know that no local laws, regulations, neighbors or neighbor hood associations will stop you, it is time to talk to the manufacturers again.

I recommend talking to at least two different wind power manufacturers with different types of rotors, such as horizontal propeller blades, or vertical ‘egg beater’ blades. Each of these has advantages and disadvantages. You want to make sure that the type of system you end up installing is the best for your particular application.

Ask the manufacturer a lot of questions, such as:

- How much clearance is required around the tower and rotor blades?
- How tall will the wind tower be?
- What are the noise emissions? Do they have certified sound data?
- How many installations have they done? Can you go see one?
- What output can you expect from their system?
- What is the installed cost per kilowatt-hour?
- What kind of warranties do they provide?
- What will they need from you to do to make it happen? (besides money)
- Will they apply for the required permits?
- Will they make the connection to the electric grid?
- Will you have to hire a general contractor?

Compare all the answers between the different models and manufacturers and then you can make an educated decision.

A handful of States provide some incentives for installing small wind power systems. Check with your state and local governments. Another option could be to get a reduced-rate mortgage for adding the wind power system. Check with your mortgage company or mortgage broker.

If you find after doing all this research, that wind power is not the solution for you, then maybe a solar photovoltaic system is your solution.

I do hope that you will be able to install either a solar energy system or a wind power generator for your home.
